Recipe Notes

Dates From: 1919 (Florence, Italy).
Key Flavours: Bittersweet, strong & complex.
Background: This is one of the most famous gin cocktails and some consider it the benchmark for a refined palette. The story goes that Count Camillo Negroni asked Fosco Scarselli who was tending bar at the Caffè Casoni to make his favourite cocktail - the Americano - with a little more kick. Scarselli obliged by adding a measure of gin (rather than the usual soda water) and garnished the drink with a slice of orange to signify the variation. The rest, as they say, is history.
