Romy’s Edition x GiveIndia – COVID Appeal
For World Gin Day, and for the next three months, we are donating proceeds from the sale of our Romy’s Edition – Mango, Ginger & Lime gin to GiveIndia to help aid efforts during this difficult time.
As well as raising a G&T, toasting all our fans, friends and loved ones around the globe, our thoughts are with the families devastated by the pandemic.
We have been deeply impacted by the news emerging from India and as the crisis unfolds we want to do our bit to help. From today, and for the next three months, we’ll be donating a percentage of the proceeds from every purchase of Romy’s Edition – Mango, Ginger & Lime*, our collaboration with celebrated chef Romy Gill MBE, to GiveIndia to support relief efforts in the region.
GiveIndia exists to alleviate poverty and is the most trusted giving platform in India. With a community of 2M+ donors and 250+ partners supporting 2,000+ verified nonprofits, serving 15M+ people across the country, GiveIndia enables individuals and organisations to raise and donate funds conveniently to causes they care about.
Our Romy’s Edition – Mango, Ginger & Lime gin is inspired by Romy’s memoirs of summers in India. The recipe includes specially selected herbs and spices, commonly found in Indian cooking that are distilled at the 6 O’clock Gin distillery before being infused with the juice of the native mango. The result is a deliciously moreish artisan gin, striking the perfect balance between rich fruity sweetness and reserved spice.
The natural sugars of the mango add a honey-like sweetness to the gin, perfectly accompanying the restrained spice from the ginger, cardamom and cumin. Citrus from the juniper, lime & lemon peel play a crucial role in keeping the palate refreshed, whilst the coriander gives the gin a pleasing savoury finish. It makes for a perfect G&T on a warm summer’s day.
If you needed reminding, Chef Romy Gill MBE is a British/Indian chef, food/travel writer and broadcaster. She was the owner and head chef at Romy’s Kitchen, a restaurant loved (and missed) by all of us here in Thornbury. In 2016 she was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s 90th birthday honours list.
Romy joined the BBC One show Ready Steady Cook last year and has previously appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, The Hairy Bikers’ Comfort Food, James Martin’s Saturday Morning and James Martin’s Great British Adventure.
